Have you ever been so hungry that anything tasted good? It may have been leftover pizza, or some stale sandwich but it was SOO GOOD because you were SOO HUNGRY.
The experience of eating this food is dramatically altered because of our thoughts and emotions about it.
Undeniably we all have emotions; and undeniably we all have traumatic experiences; but good, bad, or ugly, the question is not what happened, but rather the feelings and emotions we choose to place on those experiences.
And it is true that if it is our choice, then we can choose again.
The key is in understanding the difference between a positive experience and good experience. We can all understand a positive experience, but a good experience is one in which it is of benefit to you. Therefore even hard experiences can be “good”, or rather of benefit, to you if we choose for them to be.
This is how one person from an underprivileged area can end up never leaving, and another from the same area can become incredibly successful.
Traumatic experiences absolutely are a strong influence on our present behavior, but we have to know that nothing is actually determined by them. We do have the ability to choose today. DO WORK.
